This two-year training opportunity is designed to equip future educators with both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience through a well-defined learning model. Overview of IPTE 21 Training Programme

The IPTE 21 cohort is a two-year programme delivered in six academic terms under the 2 IN – 2 OUT – 2 IN training structure.

  • First Phase (2 Terms): Classroom-based training in Teacher Training Colleges
  • Second Phase (2 Terms): Teaching practice in primary schools
  • Final Phase (2 Terms): Return to college for completion of studies

This structure ensures that trainee teachers gain hands-on experience in real classroom environments before completing their academic training.

Minimum Entry Requirements

To qualify for the Malawi IPTE 21 Teacher Training Applications 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Possess a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent obtained between 2015 and 202

Have at least four credits, including:

  • English
  • At least one science subject (such as Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Studies, Home Economics, Physical Science, or Science & Technology)

Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application

Candidates who improved their results through supplementary examinations may also apply, provided they can present valid statements showing when grades were obtained.

Training Conditions

Successful applicants should take note of the following conditions:

  • A non-refundable contribution of MWK 75,000 per term is required for tuition and boarding
  • Trainees must cover all travel expenses during college sessions and teaching practice
  • Graduates will receive a Primary Teaching Certificate of Education (PTCE) awarded by the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB)
  • Completion of the programme does not guarantee automatic employment by the Government
