Confirmed: Form One School Opening Dates for the 2026 Academic Year

The government has officially confirmed the Form One School Opening Dates for the 2026 Academic Year, providing clarity to parents, guardians, and students across the country as preparations for secondary education begin. The announcement follows the successful placement of all eligible candidates who completed primary education examinations in 2025.

A total of 937,581 students, representing 100 percent of all candidates who met the required qualifications, have been selected and assigned to government secondary schools in various regions and local government authorities nationwide. These students attained pass marks ranging from 121 to 300 in the 2025 Primary School Leaving Examination.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Professor Riziki Shemdoe, confirmed that the government has ensured every qualified student receives a school placement through the national allocation system.

“Every student who sat for the 2025 Primary School Leaving Examination and scored between 121 and 300 has been selected and assigned to a government secondary school,” said Prof. Shemdoe.

The announcement comes at a crucial time as families finalize arrangements to ensure students report to school on schedule and continue with their studies through to Form Four.

According to the official statement from TAMISEMI, reporting dates for Form One students will differ depending on the type of school assigned.

Boarding Secondary Schools

All students selected to join boarding secondary schools are required to report on: 12 January 2026

These students are advised to complete all necessary preparations in advance to ensure smooth admission and settlement upon arrival.

Day Secondary Schools

Students assigned to day secondary schools are expected to report on: 13 January 2026

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that students are ready to begin classes immediately upon reporting.
