VETA Announces 5631 Training Opportunities for Youth Under YEFFA Project

The United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), has announced a major youth skills development initiative under the Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) Project. The program will provide 5,631 Tanzanian youth with access to short-term vocational training aimed at strengthening technical skills in agriculture-related fields.

According to the official announcement, VETA is implementing the project in collaboration with AMSHA, RUATI, TAMA, and MIBOS, with financial support from AGRA Tanzania. Training will be delivered through selected VETA colleges, including Kihonda, Manyara, Mpanda, and Arusha (Oljoro), and will be conducted in four phases, with the first phase scheduled to begin on 19 January 2026.

YEFFA Project Training Coverage and Beneficiaries

Under the YEFFA Project, the training opportunities will benefit youth drawn from multiple regions across Tanzania. These include Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Lindi, Morogoro, Pwani, Ruvuma, Njombe, Iringa, Manyara, Singida, Dodoma, Tabora, Katavi, Kigoma, Rukwa, Mbeya, Songwe, and Kagera.

VETA confirmed that all selected participants will attend the training under a day programme, meaning learners will study during the day and return home, without boarding arrangements provided by the institutions.

Courses Offered Under the YEFFA Project

As part of the announcement, VETA outlined three specific vocational courses that will be offered through the YEFFA Project. Each course is designed to equip youth with practical, industry-relevant skills within a short training period:

Agro-Mechanics (Agricultural Tools Engineering) – Training duration of four weeks

  1. Irrigation Technology – Training duration of two weeks
  2. Post-Harvest Technology – Short-term training focused on crop handling after harvest

These courses are structured to provide hands-on technical knowledge aligned with current agricultural and food production needs.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

To qualify for the YEFFA Project training opportunities, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Tanzanian youth aged between 15 and 35 years
  • Possess the ability to read and write, with primary education or higher

VETA noted that women and persons with special needs will be given priority during the selection process.

Application Procedure

VETA invited eligible youth to apply by collecting and submitting application forms physically at designated VETA centres. Application forms will be available at the following VETA colleges: Kihonda, Manyara, Mpanda, Moshi, Tanga, Lindi, Pwani, Songea, Iringa, Ludewa, Singida, Dodoma, Tabora, Kigoma, Rukwa, Mbeya, Kagera, and Arusha (Oljoro).

Applicants are required to fill in the application form and return it to the respective VETA centre, attaching the following documents:

  • A birth certificate or a letter from the Street Government Chairperson
  • Copies of academic certificates held by the applicant

Application Dates and Selection Results

The distribution and submission of application forms will begin on 19 December 2025 and close on 2 January 2026. Applicants are advised to observe the stated deadlines to ensure their applications are considered.

The results of selected candidates will be released on 6 January 2026. According to VETA, the names of successful applicants will be displayed on notice boards at the respective colleges and published on the official VETA website at www.veta.go.tz.

Training Fees and Other Costs

VETA clarified that training fees will be fully covered by the YEFFA Project. However, additional expenses such as transport, meals, and accommodation for trainees coming from distant areas will be the responsibility of the student, parent, or guardian.
